Chapter 24

Kassie

No. She’s lying.

“I’m not pregnant so you are out of luck,” I yell at her, still held back by Declan’s grasp.

Her brows draw in confusion. She takes enough sniff of the air. “No, I’m not. You’re pregnant, I can smell it from here. I’d say your little attachment was the backup plan to ensure you survived.”

What?

Then, all their conversations click. Everything they’ve been hiding from me and spoken about. That’s why they pushed for me to have a mate. Oh my gosh, I’m carrying our child.

I’m sorry Kassie. We have to get out of here. Declan’s words strike home with me. I have to go to protect our baby.

I hear the door open and Dante waltz’s out. My heart breaks further, though I didn’t think it was possible.

“Let Dante go.” Ryker finally speaks. “She needs him.”

Dante stops in his stride. “Let me go? Why would I leave the love of my life?” He finishes the short distance between him and Isolde, leans down kissing her head.

My stomach heaves in response. My wolf is torn between murdering her for taking him or murdering him for betrayal.

He wouldn’t do this Kassie. It’s the spell, a strong one at that. We have to go. Declan’s voice is strong and steady in my mind. I know he speaks the truth, but I can’t just leave Dante. I can’t let you die. Dante wouldn’t want that. He’d want me to save you and the baby first.

“NO!” My wolf has taken all she can, and I lose myself to the shift. The trauma, hurt and pain all ball up inside until it’s like an explosion of a volcano. I’m done in a matter of seconds.

I stand in my beast form and roar.

Instead of looking scared for her life, Isolde smiles like she is amused. “Kill them.”

“With pleasure.” Dante shifts into his beast form and lets out a roar that shakes the ground.

How am I supposed to fight my mate?

We have to survive for the baby. We must. My wolf growls at her response. Part of me feels torn. He’s my mate and I should love the sight of him in his full beastly glory, but there is no connection. It’s blank like I’m not even staring at him right this instance. How do you overcome that?

Fight!

He charges me and I dodge to miss the blow. It doesn’t discourage him, he just swings around and grabs me, taking me down with him and we crash into the ground.

Declan

I watch in horror as Dante and Kassie collide and land in a tangle of limbs, each one landing blows into the other.

“Stop this madness. Isolde this isn’t like you.” Ryker charges over in front of her.

I hear gurgling and turn to see all six of our men have had their throats slit. They all fall to the ground, vampires standing where they once stood, then they vanish. We’re not going to make it out with our lives, not with them at her disposal.

I turn back to watch as Dante plows into Kassie and she strikes him back, tearing into his shoulder with her teeth.
